How to increase performance of your employees
Central to any employer is the question of how to increase the performance of your employees. While you want to earn bigger profit, you also have to focus on the aspect of your human resource management. You won't be able to earn a lot if your employees don't work in an efficient manner. Basically, business owners rely too much on their human resource head to facilitate these matters. However, as the general head, this is now how it's supposed to be. You should be the over-all in charge, thereby making you accountable to everything, including the assessment of your company's performance as a whole.
Motivation
From a pragmatic perspective, all you have to do is to motivate your employees through positive or negative reinforcement. By positive reinforcement, it means that you should provide incentives and rewards to your employees. By giving out these positive integrations, they are bound to do their jobs efficiently. Incentives may come in the form of material incentives such as bonuses, extra payments and even gift items. There is also a higher incentive which is moral incentive. These refer to incentives which don't necessarily involve money or any material object for that matter. It allows your employee to do his job properly and responsibly for the betterment and improvement of your company, not just basing on any rewards after.
This is usually achieved through propaganda and conduction of team-building activities. ON the other hand, there are also negative reinforcements that we are talking about. These motivate the employee in averting any irresponsible job fulfillment. Punishment is central to this kind of motivational force. Companies can impose salary deductions, suspensions, demotions, and worst is termination. Motivation comes in when the employee is directed to being a responsible and accountable employee to avoid any punishment. Either of the two motivational forces, you can have effective results.
Motivation through Promotion
Nevertheless, the most common motivational force for your employee is the mobility of ranks or positions in the company. This is what we refer to as promotions. Of course, human as we are, we don't want to settle for less. We can never be contented with only the little that we have. We always aspire for more and even go beyond what we can expect from ourselves. There's an inherent drive for an employee to do good with his job performance in order to achieve rank promotions. Since promotions are only attained through good performance, credibility and accountability, you always have to make it sure that you satisfied your employer's criteria and standards. Sometimes, it also takes a lot of pain for your part just to attain certain goal. Sacrifices are made in exchange for a greater good.
At the end of the day, you always end up wondering why despite all the motivational forces that you give, there's still the question of how to increase the performance of your employees. Why? It is so because it's always up to your employee whether he/she wants to stay on that job by doing good or be fired by his/her boss with a bad and lazy attitude towards work.
